Overtime, there has been advancements in the field of medicine, withwidespread use of information technology for the purposes of makingimproving the provision of health services. The changes witnessed ininformation technology have brought a revolution in the medicalprofession and improved patient access to health facilities. The casestudy about Veterans Health Administration represents factors thatare crucial to the success of the organization. This case hasevaluated the managerial leadership, culture of the organization, aswell as the technology infrastructure and their impact on the successof healthcare institution. This paper seeks to analyze the case andprovide organizational environment, as well as background informationof the case. The paper will also highlight the issues and problems inthe case and the organizational structure together with the situationof the case. The paper also describes the strategies employed by theorganization in responding to the issues, especially with regard toleadership and technology.

TheVeterans Health Administration falls within the Department of VeteranAffairs in the United States. The organization can be considered asan efficient institution that has embraced the use of moderntechnology to achieve quality healthcare outcomes. Although theorganization faces clinical and financial challenges, theorganization is competent since it addresses unique health needs ofveterans. The VHA provides health services and facilities to aboutsix million veterans and the budget allocated to the organizationamounts to 50 billion dollars annually. The case is concerned withthe implementation of home telehealth technology. The organizationaims at implementing this technology and ensuring that patients andhealthcare workers benefit from the efficiency in the provision ofhealthcare facilities (Smith et al, 2012).

CaseSituation and Structure of the organization

Thesituation of the case and organization structure is based on theimplementation of VHA, which mainly focusses on the improving theprocesses in the organization, training of the staff, as well asintroducing a strong infrastructure of information technology withinthe organization. From the case, the systems approach has been veryinstrumental in the implementation of VHA since it has provided aplatform for the incorporation of business elements and technology inthe medical industry. The organization has adopted businessesprocesses with the ultimate aim of reducing the overhead costsincurred in the organization. the structure of the organizationfocusses on adherence to the culture, structure, as well asleadership. Thekey problems and issues as demonstrated in the case include theestablishment and implementation of Home Telehealth. The main aim forintroducing this program was to cater for the needs of aged patientswho are suffering from chronic illnesses. The organization is facedwith the challenge of realizing economies of scale, which can ensurethat the application is used in many regions. The organization isalso faced with the challenge of ensuring that the care provided toveterans is non-institutional. In addition, VHA is confronted withthe issue of whether they should expand their coverage and includeother illnesses such as dementia and obesity. VHA is faced with thechallenge of coordinating the care of veterans this is because thereis a tendency for most of the veterans to rely more on the providersof healthcare rather than seek services from VHA (Broderick, 2013).

Theresponse of the organization to the issues

Inorder to respond to the issues affecting them, the organizationemployed some strategies that were instrumental in helping itovercome the challenges and problems. One of the strategies employedby the organization included ensuring that the elements of coreprograms were standardized. This is based on the provision of qualityoperational procedures that align with the requirements of VHA. Thecoordinators of healthcare have also been active in ensuring thatthere is proper monitoring of the status of patients’ health andbiometric data that stores crucial information about patients. Whileresponding to the issues and problems within the organization, therewas also focus on the use of resources and tools, which can beregarded as technology-enabled. For example, the organizationimplemented the use of electronic health records (Broderick, 2013).

Reviewof the case findings

Fromthe findings of the case, it is evident that the implementation ofTelehealth will have a significant impact on the provision of healthservices to veterans. However, more can be done to ensure that thetarget population enjoys the outcome of using the application. Thebeneficiaries of the system should be included in the implementationof the program.

Conclusion

Theorganizational culture, structure, as well as leadership styles arecrucial in determining the success of an organization. VHA wishes tointroduce a healthcare program that will improve patient outcomes andaddress the healthcare needs of the veterans. With the use ofTelehealth, it will be possible to access medical records of patientsand store crucial data about the veterans. Despite the challengesbeing faced by the organization, implementing the program is a viableidea.
