Therefore,self-communication vets the content for interpersonal communicationand mass communication.

Theonline media has the characteristic of reaching a mass audience, justlike the conventional media. Inaddition, the online media allows sharing of opinion, ideas andinformation as any other media. Theseare the main characteristics that make the online media fit well inthe publicservice model of a medium. At the same time, the interpersonalcommunication and the mass communication give the platform forexpressing the ideas and opinion from the self-communication.

WhenI use the online media websites like Google and social media sites, Ido not put into consideration that they are private entities. Eventhough I know they are private organizations, I still do not considerthat they can share the information with other entities. Taking aconsideration, I believe that this information matters because itgives the private life of a person that can expose one’s secrecy,and infringe on the privacy right.

Thetraditional public sphere involved people meeting and freely discussthe issues that affect them as well as societal problems. In the sameway, the social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter allowspeople to discuss freely over issues of public sphere. However, thesewebsites work against the traditional public sphere by offering aplatform for discussing without a physical meeting of theparticipants in the discursive space.

Asasserted by the statement, individuals do not provide reliableinformation because the vox pops offer little sense as provided bypublic opinion from the public. This is because individuals findthemselves as members of a public based on their relation to thegovernment. According to the opinion polls and the vox pops, manyindividuals cannot give opinion as members of the state but thesociety.

Iperform my role as a citizen in the situations that require me to actas a citizen of a state. These situations include elections, filingtax returns or applying for government services. I am more motivatedto act in public life when there is mutual benefit from my actions. Iam less motivated to act in public life when the situation does notconcern me or does not benefit the society.

Culturalcitizenship refers to the processes of building the community andbonding the society. The processes involve the reflection of thebonding on the necessity of identifying people as formally definedcitizenships. These processes relate to politics by giving ways ofrelating to cultural citizens and incorporating them in the statecommunication.

Theinternet enables the citizenship practices of communicating with thestate. Through the internet, citizens are able to express theiropinion to the state and exercise their right of speech andexpression. In addition, the internet enables people to practice thecitizenship right of association through web communities. Moreover,the internal provides a platform for learning political knowledgethat promotes their political practice of elections. They learn abouttheir parties and the related information.
