TheDesire to Learn (D2L) is an application that enables students ininstitutions of higher learning to go through the learning processwith a lot of ease. D2L aims at ensuring that every student achievestheir full potential in the learning process, and this leads toempowerment of the students. With this application, teachers have theopportunity to change the programs in such a way that the needs ofall the students will be addressed. While using this application inteaching, there are various components of the software that can beimplemented. The components include the learning environment,learning repository, as well as analytics module. This paper willreview the Open Workbench software and evaluate its effectivenesswith regard to Desire to Learn (Sullo, 2007).
Basedon the learning environment, D2L is concerned with the environment inwhich learning takes place. The application highlights theeffectiveness of learning based on the environment that the learnersand teachers use. With a goof learning environment, D2L states thatthe engagement of both faculty and students is enhanced. In addition,the online learning platform offered by D2L enhances collaborationbetween the instructors and the students they teach. The system alsoensures that students are engaged since they are supported by toolssuch as mobile phones, and other forms of media used in the learningenvironment. The learning environment created by D2L also allows forinteractions between the students and their teachers. The interactionextends beyond the classroom. With such a learning environment also,teachers and students have the capacity to access learning materialsany time they are in need (Sullo, 2007).
Whileusing D2L, learning repository is concerned with the sharing ofinformation and useful content within an education institution, aswell as outside the institution. This enhances dissemination ofknowledge in the institution and beyond. Thus, the tool ensures thatlearners are connected with the rest of the world, thus enhancingdiversification of knowledge. Analytics is concerned with changingthe available data into information that can be acted upon. As aresult, teachers and other professionals in the education sector canmanage to evaluate the progress made by students and determine whatneeds to be done in order to improve student performance. While theseoutcomes may sound simple, their implementation can be challenging attimes. However, with combined efforts from all the stakeholders, itis possible to achieve the desired results (Schwarz, 2011).
Asdiscussed in the case, the project lifecycle entails a number ofstages and process that have to be fulfilled for the planned outcometo be achieved. When conducting any project, there is a need tofollow the five phases, which include start-up, definition, planning,execution, as well as closing of the project. With the use of OpenWorkbench, it is possible to plan the start-up phase in a project. Inthis stage, the software can be used to plan the objectives that theproject wishes to achieve. During theselection of this application, one of the factors considered as itsavailability. The software was chosen since it can accessed from theinternet freely, without any charges levied. In addition, thesoftware makes it possible to allocate resources to different partsof the project, and at the same time monitor and manage the use ofthe resources. The choice of the software was also driven by itsability to allow for comparisons between the various stages in aproject. The software also allows managers the opportunity to controlall the activities taking place in the project. Open Work bench isinstrumental in the review of projects as it allows for the use ofdiverse methods such as charts (Schwarz, 2011).
Areview of D2L indicates that the application is instrumental in theproject planning process. The application ensures that the creationof content becomes possible and a result, the learning and teachingprocesses are improved. The system has also enabled institutions oflearning to offer online courses that blend well with the needs ofthe students. Both access and management have also become lesscomplicated with the use of this software. More so, the growth ofstudents in the future is enhanced with the use of D2L. Plan designis critical in the achievement of the objectives that a project aimsto achieve. The plan design incorporates both the systems andsoftware to be used. While designing the plan, the software and thesystem have to be combined in order to enhance success of the projectprocess and allow for the achievement of the set objectives. Thethree components of software selection, plan design, and D2L revieware crucial in project planning (Shelly & Rosenblatt, 2012).
